We chose to eat at the Hello Kitty Cafe in Kyoto, Japan since our kids are infatuated with the Japanese Kitty and we thought this would be one of the coolest top things to do in Kyoto.
The Saryo Hello Kitty Cafe in Kyoto is essentially a Japanese food restaurant like any other but with a big kitty twist. The decor feels authentic – there is even a shrine dedicated to Hello Kitty in the outside garden! Also, there is an even mix of old and young alike inside the Cafe since the food itself is good enough to come for by itself.
Many people, Japanese and foreign alike, are also big Hello Kitty fans, which means that you will see normal couples dining here without any kids. Our kids loved Hello Kitty – Ava, in particular, was super excited! She actually wanted to go to Japan specifically because she wanted to Visit the Hello Kitty Cafe!
What’s on the menu? Pretty much everything, as long as it’s in a Hello Kitty shape. They provide you with a menu of lunch items, including lunch platters that come with tempura and a miso soup – which is what we had. What’s cool about it is that the Hello Kitty hints are everywhere, from your Miso Soup to your bowl of Jello. We loved that!
Most of all, we loved that they have GIGANTIC Hello Kitty stuffed animals. 😀
