First timers at the Sapporo Snow Festival! Never knew the snow could be so beautiful and yet so cold (we were not prepared for -17 degrees). But every time you see a pile of snow, it looks so soft that you want to throw your entire body into it haha xD Note: do not pick it up wearing wooly gloves because they stick in clunks on the fabric and you’re left with wet gloves for the rest of the day, unless you find a warm place to dry them off. At the train stations, there are a list of places with their own section of the festival so we ventured to Susukino to see the ice sculptures competition. HOT TIP: the shopping centre next to this laneway festival had mega huge winter clothes sales (got a buffy jacket with fleece inside for $5! BARGAIN!).

Later that day we decided to go up Mt. Moiwa via the ropeway. Awesome view up there but no skiing or snowboarding down allowed the perfectly paved snow paths.

The Ueno Toshogu Shrine is hidden away in Ueno Park so you’ll need to follow signs, definitely worth the search because it is beautiful! Lucky for us that cherry blossoms were blooming earlier this year and we got a glimpse of them in the same park ^_^ There’s also a zoo there but we didn’t have enough time to explore it, it looked like we would needed a whole day to explore it all properly – next time!

We finished off the trip at DiverCity in Daiba since we wanted to see the giant Unicorn Gundam Statue and experience shabu shabu (Japanese hotpot) for the first time. Needless to say, it was delicious that we ended our adventures in a fantastic food coma 😀
