Japan was one of the first few countries to have confirmed COVID-19 cases, but their handling of this pandemic, often criticised as slow or inefficient, led to an outbreak that was arguably avoidable had they taken action quicker.
Now, like everywhere else in the world, masks and hand sanitisers are sold out nationwide; toilet paper, wet wipes and other household items are in short supply; the streets are largely empty; many establishments have shortened their opening hours or closed their doors temporarily; many schools are closed or conducting online classes, and perhaps most outstanding of all: the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has been postponed by a year.
We are not here to add on to the criticism but to share whatever information we have on all that has happened/is happening in Japan during this time. We will cover government policies, a lockdown, a state of emergency, establishment closures and more.
