The Setouchi Shimanami Kaido is an approximately 70km long road joining Onomichi, Hiroshima and Imabari, Ehime.
The route was completed in 1999. This “sea road” uses bridges to join the six islands of Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Oomishima, Hakatajima, and Oshima.
The Shimanami Kaido features beautiful island vistas, fresh seafood, and lots of interesting sightseeing spots.
The route is also Japan’s first cross-channel cycling route, and has quite a following among cyclists.
