Ok, Is this really the origin of the ice bucket challenge? Well, probably not, but it is definitely one of my new favorite winter festivals in Japan. Daikoku Matsuri or Daikoku festival is held in the middle of January shortly after Coming of Age day (actually many of the participants are recently turned adults). There are quite a few different rituals that take place at this festival, the most interesting one being basically naked Japanese people showering themselves with ICE filled water in almost a psuedo Ice bucket challenge.

Living in Japan for almost 6 years now, I’ve been stumbling on more and more crazy festivals and events like this. Let me know if you want me to do more videos like this exploring a little more of the culture or if you want to see more of my daily life in Japan!?
