#COVID19 TOKYO 2020 March 24th. before we go further I must remind you a couple of things that make the Japanese Nation a little bit different from the rest of the world: Japanese do not hug and shake hands, they only bow from a distance, reducing the contact from person to person to almost Zero skinship. The single-payer national health insurance is very robust and everyone can afford to go to the hospital whenever needed without being bankrupt afterwards. Japan has been on top of this Covid19, hitting the clustered areas of infections. Closing all schools early on. Keeping the cruise ship off shore. Many people wear masks anyway and they are used to daily wear the masks even if they are not sick but even more so they wear them if they are sick. They are very clean germophobes, heads up on hygiene. They bathe in hot tubs every night. They never lose their cool. Active people, work and play. Obesity is not an issue at all. Great healthy food. Anything, and everything at one’s fingertips. They have extreme longevity compared to most other countries. And they have been educated to wash their hands and to use alcohol sanitizer regularly, even before the Covid-19 breakout from China. For the most part, life goes on here, pretty much as usual and that can be so, thanks to the above-mentioned conditions. Compared with the rest of the world, in Shinjuku the only big shop to close down is the Apple Store. Everything else is open, full of customers everywhere, all Starbucks cafes are full, as are the streets, department stores, UNIQLO, Isetan, Odakyu. Delicious foods and cakes as beautiful as always line up the shelves of the stores. The only things that you can’t easily find because of Corona Virus are toilet paper, masks and tissue paper. But even these are being delivered and people do have the chance to buy them if they line up. The Sakura cherry blossom is happening all over the city and it will be in full bloom in probably 2-3 days throughout the weekend. However rain will be coming too. And possibly new rules will also come to the city, now that the Tokyo Olympics will be postponed until next year. Maybe there will be some quarantine notice from now on. I do not wear a mask because healthy people are not supposed to wear masks and I do not touch anything when walking outside for example I press the elevator or ATM button with a (credit) card not my finger, or I press it through the sleeve putting some material in between my skin and other surfaces. I open the doors with the shoulder or the leg and I basically don’t touch anything and I also do not touch my face even if itchy or hair should be in my eyes, I brush it away with my arm. I keep distance from people and prefer to walk half an hour instead of taking the train for 5 minutes. actually I walk a lot and my hands are on my mobile phone at all times since I’m taking pictures 😁. and then I’m washing my phone with hot water and soap because yeah it is a waterproof HUAWEI P30 PRO 😛. and yes I say in the video that I hate apple and that is because they are crooks and manipulate older phones to downgrade them remotely, to make you buy a new model. that’s why I’m not their customer anymore. and also because Huawei produces by far the best smartphones in the world let’s face it China completely took the lead on this. end of rant.
