▼About Cherry Blossoms
(Otome Komatsu)
Komatsuotome (Otome Komatsu) is Edohigan cherry tree cultivar. The scientific name is Cerasus spachiana ‘Komatsu-otome’. Compared with Someiyoshino, it has a slightly earlier flowering period, has five petals and is slightly smaller, and its flower color is slightly deep light pink. It is named so because there is a log near the bronze statue of Imperial Prince Komatsunomiya Akihito in Ueno Park. In addition to Ueno Park, Komatsu otome is planted in the front yard of the National Theater located in Hanzomon.

(Akebono Kamiyo)
In 1912, Someiyoshino was given to Washington, D.C., the United States by Japan (Refer to the National Cherry Festival.), and later a new breed called “Akebono” (Akebono) was born from the seedlings of Someiyoshino, which were made by crossbreeding the Someiyoshino with a different species of cherry in the United States. In 1965, it was decided to import this “Akebono” back into Japan’s Jindai Botanical Park, but as there was already another kind of cherry tree in Japan called “Akebono” it was decided to be called “Americas”. When this “America (United States Name: Akebono)” was grafted and grown in the Jindai Botanical Garden, 1 of them had a flower with a different characteristic from that of “America (Akebono)” and Naomichi NISHIDA revealed that it was a different variety from that of “America (Akebono)”. In 1991, the Seeds and Seedlings Law registered Jin diakebono as a new variety. It was named by Iyae HAYASHI and the name of the variety was derived from the former name of the place where the logs were planted. According to the Flower Association of Japan, the species of cherry that was crossbred with Someiyoshino in the United States, the father of the zindaikebono, is not a wild species in the United States from the viewpoint of morphology, but a Japanese cherry that came to the United States from Japan, and the zindaikebono is considered to be a hybrid between Japanese cherry trees.
