I’m heading SOUTH towards OSAKA where I’ll be touring the backstreet alleys with a guide from govoyagin.com … known as Japan’s most dangerous city, Osaka (大阪) is the city of the merchant class. Osakans take pride in shedding the conservatism found elsewhere in Japan, and this spirited city – Japan’s third-largest – is a place where people are a bit brasher and interactions are peppered with playful jabs. Before I hop on the bullet train, a quick early morning excursion to UFUSHIN, a famous ramen shop located on the outskirts of Sendai. This is Day 5 of my Japanese Travel Series!
Japan is one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever visited. A mix of contemporary modern style and centuries old tradition, its culture has many uniquely interesting aspects…the architecture, fashion, anime, manga and of course the food…specifically, RAMEN. A little about myself…
I came to the US with my father and mother at the age of 1, in the midst of the Khmer Rouge genocide. I lived for almost 40 years without ever returning to Cambodia. It was only recently that I made my first trip back to my homeland and since then, it has been my goal to learn about Cambodia’s rich history, religion and document life of Cambodian people living there. In between my trips, I try to visit the different Khmer communities all over the US to see the differences and similarities between them. Please, I do apologize that my Cambodia language skills aren’t the greatest, but I am trying to relearn!
