Yangon City and Fukuoka City became the sister cities since 2016 December – Fukuoka Fantasy Illumination Festival is to celebrate the 3rd anniversary.

The opening ceremony of Fukuoka Fantasy Illumination Festival was held at Mahabandoola Park on December 7th, 2019, Saturday evening. The opening ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister, Mayor of Yangon, Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar and Mayor of Fukuoka City.

The four organizing representatives from Myanmar and Japan officially opened the Fukuoka Fantasy Illumination Festival. The Japan Marvelous Drummers also featured a powerful performance as part of the opening ceremony.

Mayor, Fukuoka City, Sōichirō Takashima said “We are celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of the relationship between Yangon and Fukuoka as sister cities and we want the people from Yangon to know more about Fukuoka. Fukuoka is also assisting YCDC in waste management and water supply system under the city-to-city collaboration project.”

The festival with LED lights and the exhibition of three Japanese traditional restaurants is taking place at Mahabandoola Park from the 7th of December to the 4th of January. Visitors can also participate in the Fukuoka Photo Contest by taking the pictures with Illumination and posting the pictures on Facebook – there are prizes for winners.
