本栖湖は、山梨県南都留郡富士河口湖町及び南巨摩郡身延町に跨いで存在する湖。富士山の北西山麓にあり、富士五湖の一つで、最西端に位置します。最大水深121.6mは、富士五湖の中で最も深く、面積は3番目の大きさです。富士箱根伊豆国立公園の特別地域内にあります。
日本の千円紙幣E号券、五千円紙幣D号券の裏面に描かれる逆さ富士の図案に用いられています。
「富士山-信仰の対象と芸術の源泉」の「富士山域」の一部として世界文化遺産の構成要素に含まれています。
ウィンドサーフィンのメッカであり、夏季には多くのウィンドサーファーが訪れます。風光明媚なため湖畔周辺にはホテルや企業の研修所が並ぶほか、レジャーの場として活用されています。観光船による遊覧や、ブラウントラウトやニジマスなどを狙うフィッシングも盛ん。ヒメマスの釣り場としても知られています。
1973年の東宝怪獣映画『ゴジラ対メガロ』で、冒頭のイルカの乗り物のシーンが撮影されました。
Lake Motosu is a lake that straddles Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi and Minobu-cho, Minamikoma-gun. Located on the northwest foot of Mt. Fuji, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, located at the west end. The maximum water depth of 121.6m is the deepest of the Fuji Five Lakes, and the area is the third largest. Located in a special area of Fuji Hakone Izu National Park.
It is used for the upside-down Fuji design drawn on the back of the Japanese thousand yen bill E and 5,000 yen bill D.
It is included as a component of the World Cultural Heritage as part of the “Mt. Fuji area” of “Mt. Fuji-Object of Faith and Source of Art”.
It is a mecca for windsurfing, and many windsurfers visit during the summer. Due to its scenic beauty, hotels and corporate training centers are lined up around the lakeside, and it is also used as a place for leisure. There are many sightseeing tours and fishing for brown trout and rainbow trout. It is also known as a fishing spot for tiger trout.
In the 1973 Toho Kaiju movie “Godzilla vs. Megaro”, the scene of a dolphin ride at the beginning was filmed.
