▼About Kashima Shiroyama Park
At the end of the 12 century, Masamoto KAJIMA of the Hitachi-Heishi (Also known as Yoshioka-jo Castle) built Kashima-jo Castle in the present location of Kashimashiroyama Park. The castle was the residence of the Kashima clan until the Meiji Restoration, but it was later donated to Kashima City by the Kashima clan and the remains of Honmaru (the keep of a castle) became Kashimashiroyama Park.
It is maintained as a park at the site of Kashima Castle. Today it is a place of relaxation for citizens, and you can see Kitaura and Mt. Tsukuba. In spring, cherry blossoms and rhododendrons bloom, and the “Kasama Cherry Blossom Festival” is held as a famous cherry blossom spot in the city. There are a few remains of the Kashima Castle inside and around the park, reminiscent of the past. It is one of the models of Hitachi-Heishi Castle in the medieval period.
