Drone footage of the Old Lequio Resort in Okinawa, Japan.
Okinawa was home to a large amount of abandoned resorts and tourist attractions due to a huge influx of visitors seeking pristine beaches and warm climate for their Summer vacations. Unfortunately, a lot of these resorts never completed construction and were never opened due to financial issues or other stranger reasons. The Old Lequio Resort, among others like the Royal Hotel in Nakagusuku, remain today either as an eerie mass of concrete violently jutting out of the green jungle waiting for it’s fate, or has already been broken down bit-by-bit into rubble to disappear into history.
I was also going to take my drone to the Royal Hotel in Nakagusuku, but have, sadly, discovered that it has been completely demolished since my last visit. That hotel was honestly one of the coolest structures I have ever seen. I don’t understand why people thought it was such an eyesore. I’m grateful for the fun times I’ve had exploring it with friends in the past, and it’s memory will always live on for as long as we’re alive.
