Cunard have announced today that the Queen Mary 2 will divert to Fremantle after the cancellation of the ship’s 2020 Asian itinerary. Cunard is enacting these precautions due to the dynamic and evolving coronavirus situation and are taking every precaution to protect all passengers and crew onboard their ships.

The diversion means QM2 will no longer visit Singapore and instead will sail on cruises from Australian ports on a new itinerary that is being developed at the moment.

The QM2 is due to arrive in Fremantle, Australia, on 18 February 2020 and will no longer call at Singapore on 12/13 or 18/19 February.

Affected passengers are being contacted by Cunard and full details can be found on their website at

Queen Elizabeth has also cancelled several calls including cruise visits to Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In early February 2020 we saw the first major impact that Coronavirus had on cruising industry, aboard cruise ship Diamond Princess, which is currently under quarantine in Yokohama, Japan. There have been over 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus aboard the ship.

Those aboard the ship are confined to their staterooms for the majority of the day, with movement around the ship being closely controlled to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

Another cruise ship to be affected is the World Dream has been under quarantine at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. The ship, which operates for Dream Cruises, was locked down after several passengers from the previous voyage were diagnosed with the virus.

In addition airlines have been greatly impacted with flights to Mainland China have been dramatically reduced, with many carriers cancelling all flights for the immediate future. US airlines United and American have cancelled flights to Hong Kong.

With the QM2 making her way to Fremantle, Cunard are working to assist passengers who are affected. This will include those expecting to disembark the ship in Asian ports as well as those scheduled to join. I recommend you contact Cunard via www.cunard.co.uk or their social media pages if you’re impacted.
