小平町（おびらちょう）は北海道西海岸の町。留萌郡に属する。
小平臼谷漁港
札幌・旭川から3時間圏内。90%以上が林野部に囲まれ、山間の農業生産地と二つの漁港を持つ。
町名の語源はアイヌ語の「オピラシペツ」o-pira-us-pet（河口に・崖・ある・川）で、町の中央を流れる小平蘂川の名に由来する。小平蘂川上中流域は白亜紀の化石の産地である。夏は臼谷、鬼鹿など沢山の海水浴客で賑わう。
かつては留萌炭田を抱える産炭地であって、1947年（昭和22年）頃にはその最盛期を迎えた。鉄路も留萌本線留萌駅から羽幌線、天塩炭礦鉄道、達布森林鉄道などが延びていて昭和40年代までは活況を呈していたが、閉山後に衰退。1956年（昭和31年）に鬼鹿村を併合した時の人口は3万人近かったが、現在は3000人弱となっている。
Obiracho is a town on the west coast of Hokkaido. It belongs to Rumoi-gun.
Within 3 hours from Sapporo and Asahikawa. More than 90% are surrounded by forests and have mountainous agricultural production areas and two fishing ports.
The name of the town is derived from the Ainu word “opirasipetsu” o-pira-us-pet (at the estuary / cliff / a river / river), which is derived from the name of the Kodairabe River flowing through the center of the town. The Kodairabe River upper middle basin is a source of Cretaceous fossils. In summer, it is full of many bathers, such as Usutani and Onika.
It was once a coal-producing area with Rumoi coalfield, and reached its peak in about 1947. Railroads from Rumoi Station on the Rumoi Main Line to the Haboro Line, Teshio Coal Mine Railway and Tatsubu Forest Railway continued to be active until the 1970s, but declined after the closure of the mountain. The population was close to 30,000 when Anika Village was annexed in 1956, but it is now less than 3,000.
