🔴A North Korean Spy Ship

On December 22, 2001, the Japan Coast Guard received reports that a suspicious vessel had been spotted in waters southwest of Kyūshū. Aircraft and patrol ships were dispatched to investigate the intruder, setting off a chase that was shown repeatedly on television news programs over the next few days. A video display at the museum shows Coast Guard vessels chasing the suspicious boat, ordering it to halt, and then firing warning shots across its bow.

🔴NYK Maritime Museum

This museum presents the history of how ships transferring people, goods, and culture have opened up the sea route from Japan to overseas since the Meiji period. Inside the artistic building which has been used as the Yokohama branch of a shipping company, Nippon Yusen Kaisya (NYK Line), visitors can enjoy videos and a display of a large scale model of a luxury liner of the 1920’s. Free tea service is provided in the resting area.
