Travel Better in February

It’s the time of year to head away on a romantic break, find the winter sun or discover a new adventure. Here are our top picks on how to travel better in February.

The Canary Islands have always been a great winter sun destination, but February is also when carnival season gets into full swing. The main events are usually in each island’s capital city, where you can expect vivid and flamboyant parades, outrageous costumes and a huge party atmosphere.

One of the most biodiverse areas on the planet, Kerala in southern India is the perfect antidote to the winter blues. It’s a long flight but prices are low when you arrive and the tropical climate is a wildlife lover’s paradise. Must-dos include a houseboat tour through the lush backwaters, exploring the tea plantations at Munnar and watching the traditional fishing at Fort Kochi.

Venice’s reputation as a romantic city break is well-known, but why we think you should go in February is because this is carnival season.
Every year during February there are masquerade balls, carnival parties and events all over the city.

It’s not the warmest time of year to visit but there’s no better way to experience everything that Venice has to offer.

Next we’re heading to the French riviera for something a bit different. According to legend, Menton is where Adam and Eve planted the first ever lemon tree, and the annual Fête du Citron celebrates the fruit in an explosion of colour, with floats, parades and crazy lemon sculptures. Each year has a different theme, and this year it’s all about Broadway.

It wouldn’t be a valentines list without the beautiful Paris. While you could just head to the Eiffel Tower, we recommend going to see a French film in the stunning La Pagode, taking in the culture at Musee D’Orsay, a stroll along the Seine, and tasting some of the mind blowing Paris Cuisine in the Montparnasse area.
