This is the story of an afternoon I spent by a canal in an obscure part of Osaka Bay in Japan. I had lined up the waning crescent moon with a weird, colorful tower at the Maishima Sludge Center. It would only line up on this day, at a certain time of the afternoon.
I got there and set up my tripod and framed the shot and focused and everything… and waited. Mostly, waited for the clouds to break and reveal the moon. It was a great experience; when the photo you planned isn’t going your way, you have to adapt and try something else sometimes.
This is what photography is like behind the scenes. And as an added bonus, you get to see a characterful part of Osaka’s industrial area that most people never go to — even locals from Osaka!
This is part of my series of videos exploring some of the more hidden parts of Japan and experiencing the ups and downs of photography in different conditions. And, as a Type 1 diabetic, many of my videos also cover how blood sugar behaves in various unusual circumstances.
Thanks for watching!
