Kyoto has some of the most amazing flea markets in Japan. Some of them, like the Kobo san market, come from a 700 year old tradition, making the visit not only convenience for buying antiques and fresh goods, buy also making it an unforgettable experience.
Some flea markets are specialized in certain products, such as crafts or second hand clothes, but in most of them you could easily buy antiques, flowers, bonsais, eat street food and get some fresh fruits and vegetables… and yes! Most of the times are plastic free!
Flea Markets in Kyoto usually take place attached to historical sites, temples and public parks. For instance, the Tenjin-san market happens on the 25th every month at the entry of the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The Kobo-san market takes set next to the Tō-ji Temple, south of Kyoto station.
