Our first day in Kyoto was spent exploring the Arashiyama neighborhood. This area was such a peaceful and beautiful place to spend the day especially right after our long flight. We wondered along beautiful rivers, got lost in a forest of bamboo, marveled at the stunning fall colors, discovered a peaceful temple, had some wonderful local food, and had fun with monkeys all in one day. After the peaceful tranquility of Arashiyama, the crowds at the Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion were a little too much for us. Still couldn’t imagine a better start to our time in Japan.
