〜 Traveling around Kyoto A kumihimo experience in Kyoto/Uji 〜 Sharing this beautiful Japanese tradition with 4K video
Established in 1948 in Kyoto/Uji, Showen Kumihimo has been producing the finest quality kumihimo products for over 70 years.
Kumihimo is made by braiding three or more bundles of string together, and it is well known for its exceptional feel, flexibility, strength, and functionality.
There are other practices around the world that are similar to kumihimo, but kumihimo has continued to develop and evolve
throughout the history of Japan with its common usage of string for their daily life and unique culture.
From the Warring States period through the Edo period, kumihimo was used to tie together items such as Buddhist items, tea utensils, swords, armor, and more.
Interestingly as a historical fashion piece, military commanders were thought to have specially customized their own original kumihimo designs such as on “yoroi” armor.
Even today, kumihimo is used as kimono sash clips, fashion accessories, and components in interior design. With an ongoing attention to detail and dedication to modernizing a traditional craft,
kumihimo houses continue to evolve and raise the relevance of kumihimo to a modern market and customers.
TRAM members had the opportunity to create handmade kumihimo for the first time, and we were able to capture some beautiful video of the wonderful world
of creation on display in this amazing workshop.

1948年に京都・宇治にて創業し、70年以上も組紐にこだわり生産を続ける「昇苑くみひも」。
組紐は３つ以上の束の紐を組み合わせることで構成され、その特徴は手触りの良さ、柔軟さ、そして丈夫で軽いということです。
世界でも組紐のような文化はありますが、日本で組紐が発展し続けることができたのは、紐を使う環境と日本独自の文化が紐を必要としてきたという背景があります。
戦国時代〜江戸時代においては仏具、茶道具、刀や鎧などの武具を組み合わせるための紐として使われていました。
オシャレにこだわる武将などが、自分だけのオリジナルの組紐の柄をオーダーすることもあったそうです。
現代においても、着物の帯留めとして、またアクセサリーやインテリアの一部として、世界における現代の生活に合わせた様々なシーンで利用されるように試行錯誤を重ねて、さらなる品質向上に取り組まれているとのこと。
TRAM（トラム）のメンバーは今回初めて組紐の手組みを実際に体験し、貴重な生産工場の現場の素晴らしい世界を撮影させていただくことができました。

组纽由3股以上的线绳编成，其特色是十分柔软，手感良好，又结实又轻便。
世界其他地方也有类似组纽的文化，但日本的组纽能够发展至今，也是得益于日本实际应用组纽的环境和这种绳结在日本独特文化中的必要性。
从战国时代到江户时代，组纽与佛具、茶道工具、刀、铠甲等武器相结合，被人们所使用。
据说注重武器外观的武将，还会定制只属于自己的原创组纽图案。
在现代社会，组纽常出现在和服腰绳或是饰品、家装用品上，被世界各国现代生活的各种场景所广泛应用。经历了实际应用中的各种尝试，如今组纽的品质也在不断提升。
TRAM的成员首次体验手编组纽，还拍摄到了生产工厂现场的珍贵影像，记录下了这一美好的工艺世界。
