The Handayama Botanical Garden in Okayama City is a marvelous place to see the sakura without the crowds. It was opened in May, 1964 and covers 11 hectares with over 150,000 trees and 3200 varieties of plants.
The park is open 9 AM – 4:30 PM (last entry 4 PM). Closed Tuesdays or if a holiday, the following Wednesday. Also closed Dec 29-Jan 3. Entrance fee is ¥308.
