We hop the train using our every handy Pasmo cards (seriously, these things made our trip SO much easier. We’ve read that you can’t get around Kyoto by train and have to take busses. We did not find that to be true. We did most of our transport in the Kyoto area using the train/subway and it worked wonderfully. As we walk through the main street of Arashiyama there is no doubt this is a BIG tourist attractions as the streets are literally clogged with tourists (like us) but that can’t take away from the absolute beauty of this place which sports several UNESCO sites. The highlights for us were the Monkey Park and the Bamboo Forest where we happened across a real Geisha our doing Geisha business! So cool! The Bamboo Forest was way more beautiful than expected and despite the crowds is firmly planted on our “don’t miss this” list.
