Get blissfully lost in the slower paces of Kyushu Island, the southwesternmost of Japan’s four main islands. The easiest way to get there from Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto is by train using your JR pass to Fukuoka’s Hakata Station. Once you’re there, the best way to explore some of Kyushu’s hidden gems is by rental car.
