In this video we’ll show you Shiretoko National Park ,Hokkaido.
Five fantastic lakes surrounded by primeval forest.
From the observation deck of the elevated walkway, you can see a panoramic view of Daiichi Lake and Shiretoko mountain range.
There are two ways to walk in Shiretoko Five Lakes: “Elevated wooden path” and “Ground promenade”. The elevated road starting from the field house is a set route of 800 meters one way and 1.6 km round trip. It is open for free during the park opening period, and the slope is designed to be gentle so that people who push in wheelchairs and strollers can pass safely. It is a route to see only one lake, but it is possible to make a round trip in about 40 minutes, so this is recommended for people who have limited time to sightseeing.

Another way to walk is the “ground promenade”, where you can experience the nature around the five lakes while observing it at the same height as the line of sight. I would like to recommend it to people who want to deepen their knowledge while spending time slowly. This “ground promenade” is a “small loop” of about 1.6 km that travels from the field house to Lake 2 through Lake 1 and returns to the house through the elevated walkway. There is a course called “Large Loop” of about 3 km that goes around all the lakes in the order of 5 lakes-4 lakes-3 lakes-2 lakes-1 lake.
Shiretoko Five Lakes, the most beautiful around May-June, overlaps with the brown bear activity period, so during this period (May 10-July 31), you should walk on the “ground promenade” except for tours accompanied by a professional guide Be careful as you cannot. In particular, the appearance rate of brown bears increases in June. The reason for this is that the roots of mizubasho that grow naturally around the lake are their favorite food, and the appetizing brown bears who have entered the active period come to eat it.
