Asakusa is an area in Tokyo shitamachi (low town or old town). The area attracts many tourists and Tokyo residents. The major point of interest is the Sensoji temple, a Buddhist temple from the 7th century. This is the oldest remaining Buddhist temple in Tokyo. Nakamise-Dori (Nakamise Street) is a long shopping street which leads to the Thunder Gate of the Sensoji Temple. Here you can find many small shops selling traditional local sweets, snacks and tourist souvenirs. If you go to the observation deck of the local tourist office building, you will also get a great view of the Tokyo Skytree (Oshiage), Sumida River and the headquarters of the Asahi Breweries.
