The most iconic view on Mount Fuji is from behind the Crimson Red Chureito Pagoda!! And now in autumn enhanced by Red Leaves of the Momiji! It is the classic image of Japan, used by all travel sites! But few people know that you can get here not by the expensive & cumbersome train (though cute if you get the Thomas cabins) you can arrive by Highway Bus!! From Shinjuku directly! Just make sure to book a bus that stops at Shimoyoshida Highway stop. From there, use Google maps to walk the remaining 30 minutes up the mountain all the way behind the Pagoda building. There are restrooms quite clean, and food stalls at the base of the over 300 steps to be climbed. The Arakura Jinja Shinto shrine is a nice visit too and sometimes they have shows of Noh and other traditional stuff!
