Itsukusima Miyajima/厳島・宮島観光

This video introduces the situation when we went to sightseeing in Itsukushima /Miyajima in March 2019.

We headed to Itsukushima via Hiroshima Airport.

Near Hiroshima Airport, there was a shop of Hattendo, famous for its cream bread.

This shop also has a factory, so you can enjoy a factory tour.

I arrived at Miyajimaguchi in about 70 minutes using the expressway.

If you go by train, JR Miyajimaguchi Station or Hiroshima Electric Railway Miyajima Station is the nearest station. In the case of JR, it is about 25 minutes from Hiroshima Station. In the case of Hiroshima Electric Railway, it takes about 45 minutes from the front of the Atomic Bomb Dome.

It takes about 10 minutes by ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima.

Itsukushima is also called Miyajima, and Miyajima means the island of God. Its official name is Itsukushima.

It is said to have been erected in 593 supposedly by Saeki Kuramoto during the Suiko period.

However, the present shrine has been popularly attributed to Taira no Kiyomori, a prominent warlord (daimyo) who contributed heavily to the building of the shrine during his time as governor of Aki Province in 1168.

The shrine at that time was in fire, and the main part of the existing shrine was rebuilt in 1241.Since it is built in the sea, it is often damaged by typhoons, but it has never been submerged in 850 years since the beginning of Taira no Kiyomori.

Miyajima’s gourmet is oysters and eels. We also had lunch at “Yakigaki Hayashi”, an oyster shop.

私たちは広島空港経由で厳島に向かいました。

広島空港のそばにはクリームパンで有名な八天堂のお店がありました。

こちらのお店は工場も併設しており、工場見学も楽しめられるようになっています。

宮島口までは高速道路を使って70分ほどで到着しました。

電車で行く場合には、JR宮島口駅もしくは広島電鉄宮島駅が最寄り駅となります。JRの場合、広島駅からは約25分です。広島電鉄の場合は、原爆ドーム前から約45分です。

宮島口から宮島へはフェリーで約10分です。

厳島は宮島とも呼ばれ、宮島とは神の島という意味です。正式な呼称は厳島です。

厳島神社の歴史は長く、西暦593年、当地方の有力豪族・佐伯鞍職（さえき・くらもと）が社殿を創建したことに始まります。

そして平安時代末期の1168年ごろ、当時この地方を統治していた平清盛が社殿を造営し現在と同程度の大規模な社殿が整えられました。

当時の社殿は火災に遭い、現存する社殿の主要部は1241年に再建されたものです。本社本殿は室町時代の1571年に再建されたものですが、その規模や様式は平安時代末期のものを引き継いでいます。

海域に建っているため、台風などによって被害を受けることもしばしばですが、平清盛が建立して以来850年水没したことはありません。

宮島のグルメと言えば、牡蠣とアナゴで、私たちも牡蠣専門店の「焼がきのはやし」さんで昼食を頂きました。
