FUKAGAWA-MESHI
Dig deeply into the history of Tokyo foods with Fukagawa-meshi, a traditional dish from the Fukagawa area (modern day eastern Tokyo). Fukagawa-meshi is a historical local dish featuring Japanese littleneck clams (asari). These delicious mollusks are extremely popular, and have long been a beloved ingredient in this region.

There are two ways to enjoy Fukagawa-meshi. “Bukkake” style is made by pouring hot miso or soy sauce flavoured soup with plenty of littleneck clams and leeks onto rice. “Takikomi” style, on the other hand, cooks the clams and other ingredients into the rice, creating a whole different experience.

Around 25 restaurants in the Fukagawa area serve Fukagawa-meshi, and each restaurant has a different take on the traditional recipe.
