At Kayabuki no Sato (thatch-roofed village) in the Miyamacho district of Nantan, Kyoto Prefecture, tourists and visitors can enjoy viewing a 1.9-hectare field of soba buckwheat flowers in full bloom. This area with thatch-roofed houses is designated as a national important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings. The buckwheat seeds planted in mid-August have grown well and made a white carpet of lovely flowers. These flowers will be at their best until the end of September, and the buckwheat will be harvested in late October to make soba noodles.
