Oh Ginza… Once a place where upper-class Tokyoites of the older generation went for their weekend shopping. These days however, it feels more like a big tourist trap where entire shops seems to be designed only for visitors arriving in tour buses, looking to bring back as much tax-free goods as possible…
It’s still one of the most visually interesting areas in Tokyo though, thanks to the long wide roads lit up by all the upscale brands trying to outdo each other.
In this video, shot on a weekend evening, I’m covering the entire main street (Chuo-Dori), famous for upscale shopping malls like Mitsukoshi, Matsuya and now also Ginza Six, before venturing off to some of the smaller side streets. It was shot just as the sky went from blue to black, so you can see the entire neighborhood slowly light up in this video.
