HOKKAIDO: Saudi Ambassador Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr visited Shin-Chitose International Airport on Thursday, marking the second day of his official tour of Hokkaido Prefecture.
The visit was hosted by Masaki Yamazaki, CEO of the Hokkaido Airports Company, who invited the Ambassador to observe the facility’s strategic importance and operational capabilities.
The Ambassador toured the airport facilities and received an in-depth briefing on the public-private partnership model for airport management, including its challenges and opportunities.
Yamazaki introduced Japan’s airport privatization program, showcasing how partnerships between the government and the private sector, such as those with Tokyu Airports Company, have boosted operational efficiency and fueled sustainable economic and tourism growth.
Both parties further explored opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, infrastructure development, and airport operational efficiency.
The airport is a leading example of public-private cooperation in Japan. It is operated by Hokkaido Airports Company under a concession agreement with several prominent Japanese firms, including the Tokyu Group, a key partner in its operation and management.
Tokyu Company, a holding firm with a wide network of subsidiaries, brings deep experience in urban development, railway operations, and airport management. With specialized expertise in urban connectivity, its representatives have visited the Kingdom and shown strong interest in pursuing opportunities that align with Vision 2030.
The airport site is managed by a consortium of organizations, each contributing to its growth and operations. Together, they strive for global connectivity and uphold high standards that benefit everyone involved.
These models support Vision 2030 by promoting Saudi Japanese knowledge exchange and identifying opportunities for effective cross-border public-private partnerships. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in tourism and aviation to increase mutual visits within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030 projects.
