Ryozenji Temple, First Temple in the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage

Ryozenji Temple, also called “Ichiban San” Temple is the first temple in the very popular Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage covering the entire Shikoku Island area. This pilgrimage is very popular with both young and the old. Shikoku Island itself is a very scenic area with mountains, rice fields and the ocean and Seto Inland Sea. The main worshipped deity is the Shaka Nyorai (Buddha). All these temples are associated with Kobo Daishi “Kukai”, who is the founder of the Shingon Sect of Japanese Buddhism. This temple is located in the Naruto City of Tokushima Prefecture.
