This is our tour of Asakusa in Tokyo, Japan including the famous Sensō-ji temple which is a sight to behold. Sensoji (浅草寺, 浅草寺 or the Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a Buddhist temple that’s also one of the most colorful and visited temples in all of Tokyo.

Legend has it that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River. After they put the statue back in the river, it kept coming back to them. Sensoji was built to honor the goddess of Kannon in 645, meaning that on top of being one of Tokyo’s main historical attractions, it’s also the oldest.

Asakusa is also known for its frequent matsuri (Shinto festivals) due to the multitude of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in the area. It’s said that each temple or shrine hosts at least one matsuri a year, and some every season. The largest and most popular is known as the Sanja Matsuri which happens in May.

We also ate some Japanese Street Food in Asakusa, including Japanese Hot Pot and Asakusa Melon Pan filled with ice cream. The Melon Pan in particular is a must when visiting Asakusa and is super delicious. You can find it in many different flavours. Robyn also has a bento box.

About us: We are Daniel, Robyn, Ava, Rose, and Ella, and together we are The Go To Family. We love to travel! We also love food, exploring historical sites and, of course, doing loads of fun things together as a family. In my videos, you will see me and Robyn tackle every obstacle that traveling with kids throws at us. We do traveling almost exactly the same way as we did before having kids, it just takes a little bit more planning. But it’s even more fun and rewarding to be able to show them new cultures and live new experiences with them at the same time! Our mission is to inspire other Millennials to travel with kids.

Our 7-year-old daughter, Ava, also has her own YouTube channel. Feel free to check it out right here:

We also really enjoy posting to Instagram, you can check out our channels here:
