Malaysia Airlines has announced its decision to resume direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka in Japan, starting September 2, 2026. Addressing a press conference, Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “This expansion reflects our strategic focus on scaling our presence in key growth markets across East Asia while cementing Kuala Lumpur’s position as a key strategic gateway”.
“The return to Fukuoka further enhances our network depth. As the only carrier operating direct flights on this route, we are proud to offer passengers a seamless non-stop experience that eliminates the need for transit,” he added.
Fukuoka is located on the island of Kyushu and is a popular tourist destination. The decision to resume operations on this route reflects Malaysia Airlines’ growing interest in reinforcing its presence in Japan, as it remains the only carrier offering direct flights on this route.
In addition to Fukuoka, Malaysia Airlines is also introducing flights to other key destinations in East Asia, including Shenzhen and Changsha. The launch of these two destinations further strengthens its footprint in China, adding to its existing network of nine routes across the country, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Chengdu Tianfu.
To further meet the growing demand for tourism, Malaysia Airlines is also increasing its flight operations across key routes, including Brisbane in Australia, Manila in the Philippines and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
