Developer Nihon Falcom has shared new details regarding the characters and gameplay mechanics for the upcoming action RPG Kyoto Xanadu on April 2, 2026.
The update introduces Lear Beresford, a 13 year old prodigy and leader of the Starry Night Travelers who uses floating magical tools in combat.

Accompanying her is 18 year old Eliza Alcott, a skilled rapier user who serves as Lear’s assistant and a member of the academy disciplinary committee.

The reveal also highlights Hosen Suruga, the 18 year old leader of the Abyssal Investigators, and Luana Calderone, an 18 year old third year student known as the Saint of Siena.

Kyoto Xanadu features a Dual Dimensional battle system that allows players to seamlessly transition between 2D and 3D action sequences.

Players can utilize Soul Devices to perform standard and strong attacks, as well as specialized movements like mid-air dodges and wall jumps.
The combat system includes a shooting mechanic with attribute-based special bullets such as fire, wind, and ice.
Defensive strategies are vital, with a guard mechanic that allows for precise parries to trigger powerful Issen counterattacks.
When the Accel Gauge is full, players can activate Soul Accel to enhance their offensive capabilities and simplify the timing for counters.
The game also includes Secret Arts, which are devastating area-of-effect attacks available exclusively during 3D combat scenarios.
Kyoto Xanadu is scheduled for release on July 16, 2026, in Japan and Asia for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
While the initial launch focuses on Asian markets, Nihon Falcom has confirmed that a western release is currently planned for a later date.
