The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a psychiatrist who runs a clinic in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward on suspicion of sexually assaulting a patient, it was learned on Wednesday.

The 55-year-old suspect, Jun Izawa, allegedly assaulted the patient — a woman in her 20s — on the afternoon of Aug. 8, 2025, in an examination room at a clinic he runs in Shinjuku Ward’s Kabukicho area called Tokyo Clinic. He is remaining silent.

Police said Izawa initially examined the woman, and then accompanied her to a pharmacy. After telling her, “there’s still an examination left,” he brought her back to the clinic and locked the main door, leaving them alone inside.

The woman, who was visiting the clinic for the first time, told police she feared Izawa would not let her go home if she angered him. Authorities are viewing the incident as a case in which the alleged victim was unable to resist.

The woman’s partner discovered what happened after noticing the examination took an unusually long time and went with her to the police to report the incident.
