Did you make sure that there wasn't a complimentary dinner included? When I booked our stay at Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu thru their direct website, the way that it was worded made it seem like we had to choose whether to have a breakfast or dinner option but in reality that was just the "special upgraded version" and they provided an included AYCE option for breakfast and dinner
