Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto has announced the launch of its Onsen Healing Journey Retreat, a wellness programme designed to promote deep restorative sleep. Available from 1 April 2026, the retreat combines traditional Japanese hot spring bathing with modern wellness practices, guided by a dedicated Spa Concierge.

Timed with the hotel’s recognition by the Forbes Travel Guide as a Five-Star Spa, the programme focuses on restoring natural rhythms and improving sleep quality. Guests begin their journey with a personalised consultation to tailor the experience to their needs. The retreat includes five integrated pillars: onsen bathing, spa treatments, nourishing cuisine, mindfulness practices, and gentle movement.

Guests can enjoy private onsen suites featuring the Kyoto Nijo Onsen natural hot spring. Treatments include Japanese mugwort steam, sake lees, and Japanese mint body scrubs, alongside a mineral clay pack. A signature spa treatment and a specialised camellia oil treatment by Kazurasei, a historic Kyoto establishment, are also offered.

The retreat extends beyond the spa with a light dinner highlighting seasonal Kyoto ingredients and fermented elements like koji, supporting the body’s natural recovery. Mindfulness practices further aid in regulating the nervous system for restorative sleep.

The retreat is priced at $1,240 (JPY 186,000) per person or $1,945 (JPY 292,000) for two guests, excluding accommodations. Reservations must be made at least seven days in advance, and the programme is exclusive to hotel guests. Located next to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nijo Castle, Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto offers an immersive experience that reinterprets traditional Japanese onsen culture for global travellers
