Mayer Brown has hired seven lawyers from A&O Shearman, including partners Toshiro Mochizuki and Kana Morimura, as the firm continues its Tokyo office expansion and strengthen its ability to support Japanese clients on complex cross-border matters.

Joining Mochizuki and Morimura is a group of five associates, marking the firm’s latest hires from A&O Shearman following the appointment of Masahisa Ikeda as managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Tokyo office just over a month ago.

“The addition of Kana and Toshiro, together with their team, materially expands our ability to advise Japanese multinational clients on outbound transactions, investigations and complex regulatory matters at the highest level,” Ikeda told Asia Business Law Journal.

“We are continuing to expand in Japan with a clear objective: to build a market-leading US law capability on the ground, to ensure that our clients experience the full value of the global platform offered by Mayer Brown.”

Mochizuki advises issuers and underwriters on global offerings, SEC registrations, SEC reporting and governance, and other US securities law matters.

As for Morimura, her expertise lies in complex dispute resolution and multi-jurisdictional investigations and disputes, including anti-bribery, antitrust, fraud, False Claims Act matters, product-quality issues and commercial disputes.
