ALYSSA Solomon is set to part ways with Osaka Marvelous after just one season in the Japan SV.League.

The 24-year-old, 6-foot-2 opposite hitter will exit the club at the end of the season in April, closing out her first pro stint overseas.

Solomon joined Osaka last September following the departure of Jaja Santiago (Sachi Minowa) and quickly settled into a deep, talent-laden rotation.

She leads a list of departures that signals a major roster rejig, which includes Samantha Francis, Lise Van Hecke, Airina Ogawa, Fuka Inoue, Nana Sakakibara and Amayo Miyabe.

‘One of the most rewarding chapters’

Solomon, however, saw limited action for most of the campaign, often deployed sparingly as part of a double substitution and typically coming in late parts of a set.

She largely played behind Osaka’s established starters, making the most of short stints on the floor in a tightly-contested rotation.

Despite the brief run, Solomon called the experience a defining step in her career.

“As I approach the end of my journey with Osaka Marvelous, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the support throughout this season. This journey has been particularly meaningful to me as it marks my first experience playing professionally and a big step in my career,” Solomon said in a statement posted on the team’s official website.

“It wasn’t an easy decision [to turn pro in Japan], but it turned into one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. I’m truly grateful for everything I’ve learned and for the moments shared with my teammates, coaches and fans. Let’s make this final stretch of the season special, and I hope you continue to support the team until the very end.”

Solomon made the leap to Japan fresh off a championship run with National University in UAAP Season 87.

Unlike fellow champion Bella Belen, who is now Capital1’s go-to ace, Solomon bypassed the PVL Draft and went straight to the pro ranks abroad.
