AnimeJapan has announced that AnimeJapan 2027 and AnimeJapan 2028 will move to Osaka. AnimeJapan 2027 will mark the first time the annual event has been held outside of Tokyo in its 13-year history. To commemorate the announcement, A teaser video was released featuring Sono Hiramitsu. 

“‘AnimeJapan,’ which has been held in Tokyo for the past 13 years as ‘one of the world’s largest anime festivals,’ will be held in 2027 in Osaka—a city that has long flourished as a gateway for international trade and will welcome visitors from around the world for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan,” the AnimeJapan committee said on the official website. “With the support of the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, AnimeJapan will showcase the appeal of animation to the world from Osaka and strengthen Japan’s content industry, with the anime industry at its core.”

AnimeJapan 2026 is being held from March 28 to 29 at the Tokyo Big Sight. The event hosts various stage programs highlighting some of the year’s biggest anime releases, including One Piece, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3, to name a few. More than 120 exhibitors will participate in AnimeJapan 2026, including Good Smile Company, TBS, Netflix, Fate/Grand Order, Marvelous, MAPPA, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Kadokawa, Toei Animation, Bushiroad, and much more.
