KYOTO–A lighting test was held on March 26 at Kiyomizudera temple in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district ahead of the opening of nighttime viewing, illuminating the UNESCO World Heritage temple’s cherry blossoms.

The nightly spring event runs from March 27 through April 5. About 1,000 sakura on the temple grounds, along with the national treasure main hall famed for its “Kiyomizu stage,” will be lit by roughly 500 lighting units of various sizes.

Lights are scheduled to be switched on at 6 p.m. during the period, with entry accepted until 9 p.m. Admission is 500 yen ($3.12) for adults and 200 yen for elementary and junior high school students.
