teamLab has unveiled a series of immersive cherry blossom-themed artworks at its permanent nighttime exhibition, teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka, as sakura reach peak bloom in the Japanese city.

Among the highlights is Crystals of Cherry Blossoms and Ethereal Cherry Blossoms, a limited-time installation that will be on view from March 27 to April 12. The artwork appears only during the brief period when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, transforming the trees into shimmering, crystal-like forms that emerge in the spring night.

The installation explores the fleeting nature of life, with glowing particles of light etched into the surrounding space, while the outlines of the blossoms appear to float, sink and sway. The collective describes the work as an attempt to capture the presence of life itself, turning a transient seasonal moment into what it calls a “cognitive sculpture.”

Additional installations across the garden also respond to the blooming season. Floating Resonating Lamps on Oike Lake – Ambiguous Cherry Blossom features softly glowing lamps that react to movement and wind. When visitors approach, the lamps shine more brightly and emit tones that ripple across the lake, creating a chain of light and sound that extends to nearby trees.

Similarly, Resonating Trees – Weeping Cherry responds to the presence of people and animals, illuminating in synchrony with the blossoms. Light and sound spread from tree to tree, encouraging visitors to become more aware of others sharing the same space.

Located within Nagai Botanical Garden, the outdoor museum integrates digital art with the natural environment, allowing plants, water and ecosystems to become part of the installations. The artworks evolve throughout the year, reflecting the changing seasons.

The cherry blossom displays mark one of the most anticipated periods at the venue, offering visitors a chance to experience the intersection of nature and digital art during one of Japan’s most iconic seasonal events.
