A Walk around KICHIJOJI ✨ Tokyo Street Walk Vlog

Kichijoji’s an area of Tokyo that’s west of Shinjuku. It’s more chilled than central Tokyo, and a great place to explore if you’re going to the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka.

When you’re in Mitaka for the Studio Ghibli Museum, it’s easy to take a walk through Inokashira Park to Kichijoji, a nearby neighbourhood with lots of shops and restaurants. In this street walk video, we take a look around to see what’s there. We were there mainly to check out the branch of Hard Off (a secondhand store) that specialises in musical instruments. We took a walk along Kichijoji Sunroad, a Japanese shotengai (covered shopping street), browsed retro games in a few branches of Hard Off, had sushi at Sushrio, a conveyor belt sushi chain, and checked out a games arcade. Finally there’s a stroll through Harmonic Yokocho, which is a less touristy alternative to the Golden Gai or Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku, with lots of small bars and izakaya. Kichijoji’s a more suburban area of Tokyo, so it feels more chilled – it’s a great place only 15 minutes from Shinjuku on the Chuo Line.

  1. 😆 "Hard drives or whatever all these bits are" had me laughing as there were no hard drives to be seen. And the "retro keyboards" are actually micro computers from the '80s which is why they are so chunky. But then again, the computers are more my cup of tea than the music instruments 😅

4 more weeks, and I'm packing my suitcase to fly to Japan again. Counting down ☺️

  2. Phil never had omurice before!?!? He's missing out!! but yeah, understandable if you're both trying to go to a place.

  3. Kichijoji is great, cakes from Lemon Drop, walk round the corner, coffee from Blue Sky Coffee then a seat in Inokashira kouen, nice.

  4. Looks a fantastic area without the chaos so thanks for this 👍 And it seems there are apps for coin lockers but I don’t know if it would cost more as I didn’t look 😄

  5. Love those orange juice machines, they had one in the arrivals or Hiroshima airport and it was exactly what I needed when it was close to 24 hours after leaving my house, gave me the much needed vitamin boost for the final push for the hotel. Started noticing them everywhere after that!
