TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Japanese Embassy in Jakarta has confirmed that Japan is ready to welcome Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for an official visit from March 29 to 31, 2026, aiming to further strengthen the longstanding relations between the two nations.
The statement was made by Hoshino Daisuke, Director of the Japanese Embassy’s Center for Information and Culture, in Jakarta on Wednesday. He spoke during an event marking the departure of recipients of Japanese government scholarships, responding to questions regarding President Prabowo’s upcoming visit to Japan.
“Japan and Indonesia maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership. We warmly welcome President Prabowo’s visit,” Hoshino said.
He emphasized that Indonesia is a key partner for Japan in Southeast Asia and that both countries share broad-ranging ties spanning economic, cultural, and political sectors.
Hoshino added that during the visit, President Prabowo and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will discuss a wide array of issues, reflecting the many ongoing projects between the two countries. “We want to use this opportunity to further strengthen the already strong relationship between Japan and Indonesia,” he said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, President Prabowo’s official visit from March 29 to 31 will include participation in a State Luncheon with the Emperor of Japan as well as a formal meeting with Prime Minister Takaichi.
The ministry described the visit as an important occasion to reinforce the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
This will be President Prabowo’s first official visit to Japan as President. Previously, he visited Japan privately to attend Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, in September 2025. The upcoming visit marks a milestone in diplomatic relations and offers both countries an opportunity to consolidate cooperation in multiple areas.
