We Nailed It! The PERFECT Japan Winter Trip North of Tokyo

Goodness GRACIOUS what a trip! I don’t normally attempt roadtrips in Japan during winter cuz of the driving difficulty, and the fact that I hate the cold but this trip might’ve just changed all of that! Yamagata, Miyagi and little bit of Tochigi is all you need in winter for some life changing scenery apparently! Excited for the next season 🌸

  1. Love it Hannah! Great work. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
I just booked our tickets for May to fly over and buy a house. You are partly to blame…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  2. That tree with the mirrors wouldn't last a week in my country they would get smashed pretty much right away… Must be nice in Japan πŸ˜…

  3. I'm a Japanese living in Japan, but watching your movie allowed me to experience places I've never been to before. thank you.

  4. Went to Zao in summer, I was the only one in the ropeway. I wondered how it could be profitable to have it open. Now I know how. Beautiful!

  5. Pretty cool places , but the crowds are insane . Much appreciate you sharing so that we can virtually experience what you captured.
Better safe than sorry on the snow tires. Hopefully , you can make some use out of them this season .

  6. Some soul-shakingly beautiful places on this trip! Just one note: it seems like your voice audio cut out from 2:40 to 2:47, not sure if that was intentional but the subtitles show what you were saying. Either way, spectacular video regardless, thanks for making it.

  7. [4:15] waiting 2 hours for the otherworldly views at Mount Zaō (on a day with favourable weather conditions to appreciate it even better): it depends on how much one values beauty, for me it's near the top of the list so… abso-effing-lutely worth a little pain. Just stunning

    [11:03] What's happening, people in the next partition having a funny/weird conversation?…

[12:07] Haguro-san and the Gojunoto (pagoda) also breathtaking. Easy to see why that special place makes people think of the sacred.

    Thanks for sharing, H&C πŸ™‡πŸ»β€β™‚

  8. Music: This is the most beautiful and serene place on Earth, hand-shaped by God to soothe the troubled soul.

Hannah: This light won’t stop flickering. Why are there legos in my pillow. The weather sucks here. Awful place to ski. These lines are fucked. How long til the bus? Wish this water was warmer.

  9. Northern Kyoto in mid January was quite wintry but taking the ropeway and seeing Amanohachidate blanketed in snow for the first time ever was absolutely stunning. The trip was all done by train and only one taxi from Osaka. Well worth the time and effort.

Eager to explore northern Honshu. The crowds to take a short gondola ride is so Japan. πŸ˜‚

  10. So I actually went to Zao to snowboard last month for about a week. The first half of the week was very icy, but the second half of the week was great. If you are there to do snowboarding/skiing, then I would recommend that you take the skii lifts up – you can bypass the long queue at the bottom and reach in about 30mins if you are a good skiier/snowboarder.

Near the resort I also stumbled upon a frozen lake that was absolutely beautiful in winter.

I'm surprised that you didn't make a trip to the Tadami River Bridge Viewpoint!

  11. Long time viewer here. I really hope you see this. I've been professional in the TV in Film Industry for 18 years. I hope that holds a little bit of weight in this statement, but I think you're pretty deadly with a camera. You truly have a cinematic eye in both your shot composition and color. I'm glad you found a place here on YouTube, but just know that I believe if you ever wanted to branch off into any kind of documentary filmmaking or even narrative I think you would do really well. If no one has approached you yet, that's a travesty because I think you could be like Peter McKinnon and do your YouTube and professional filmmaking on the side. If you ever need AAA, weapons grade visual effects for anything don't hesitate to reach out.

  12. Yep, you guys sure did nail it. Thanks again for bringing such amazing photography to your channel for us to all enjoy. Particularly liked how you captured the snow falling. Very coolπŸ˜‚

  13. I would love to go back to Tohoku in winter again. Thank you for reminding me how wonderful Yamagata is. And yes, Zao Monster weather is a bit tricky. We were there around 4pm, it was getting dark and scary.

  14. My wife and I went to Zao last month, such a great resort ! We missed the snow monsters though because the temperature went up to much after the big storm of Early February . – skiing half way to get there is much easier than the main rope way. Yes it can be very windy on top but the rest of the mountain is very chill 😊 the tourists go to the top and leave , the resort itself is not busy at all (February/March)

  15. I have always said that Yamagata is so slept on, my favourite prefecture in Japan that not many westerners know about, pretty popular with Chinese Tourists though. Thank you for highlighting the area, would love to see the area get more attention and grow as a region.

  16. In Zao Onsen, you only get good weather 10–20% of the time in Winter. When I was there, the weather was bad and you couldn’t see anything. And to be honest, I was disappointed by Ginzan Onsen. There really isn’t much to do there, and it’s absolutely swamped with Asian tourists.
