Our love affair with Japan has continued into 2026 after a record number of Australians visited last year.

Tour operator Inspiring Vacations has reported a 60 per cent increase in website visits and customer inquiries for Japan since March 1.

It follows the Japan National Tourism Organisation recording more than a million Australians visited the country in 2025, setting a new record.

Inspiring Vacations CEO and co-founder Paul Ryan said the recent surge was a mix of last-minute bookings and those who had pre-planned trips.

“Japan is always a popular destination and remains our customers’ favourite place to visit, even more so in the last few weeks,” he said.

“It’s a wonderful country to visit – our customers find people are friendly, the sights are amazing, it’s spotless and safe – the automatic toilets are always a highlight – and the food is first-class.

“We’re (also) seeing a resilience in our customers’ travel appetites with South and North America, Sri Lanka, southern Africa and Vietnam also very popular just now.

“Destinations, like Japan, which remain easily accessible from Australia are top of most people’s lists.”

Inspiring Vacations’ ‘Japan Super Sale’ runs until March 26, offering 40 per cent off 2027 and 2028 holiday bookings, and 20 per cent off packages for this year.

Their tour deals, including 15 and 16-day itineraries covering Japan’s most popular destinations, are proving popular with travellers.

“As Australia’s leading tour operator, we’ve become a go-to for Australians travelling to Japan,” Mr Ryan said.

“This sale brings together some of our most competitive offers yet on our most popular classic and small group tour itineraries.”
