There are so many observation decks in Tokyo, but which is the best? I went to as many as I could to compare them for you, including the price, the view, what you can see, how tall they are, how easy they are to get to and what’s nearby. Is Shibuya Sky the best? Is the SkyTree worth it? And should you upgrade to the top deck? It’s all in my video, to help you decide which is the best for your Japan trip. At the end there are some alternative options, and some less well-known observatories like Hachitama in Odaiba, plus free views from observation towers in Asakusa and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku.

  1. Love it! I try to go to some kind of observation deck or tower in every Japan city I visit. Or even hike/take a ropeway to the top of a mountain to see the view. When the weather is nice it's always great to get an elevated view

  2. Надо всё попробовать. Но основеая толпа туристов ломится на Sky Tree. Я там по предварительно купленному билету потратил стоя в очередях 4 часа на вход и на выход 😂 Токийская башня решает.

  3. Sky tree was over rated and way to busy. Shibuya sky was amazing and I went twice as I missed the sunset. Tower was nice for that retro look, but felt old. Sunshine city and Fuji center were up there and were nice and relaxed. Oh and Gov viewing deck was good but busy and out of the way.

  4. Damn, now I want to do Tokyo Tower and climb the stairs 😆. Years ago, when I was working in Dubai, a rain shower (it doesn't rain often but when it does, it really is a downpour like we never see here) took out the elevators in our office building and I climbed the stairs, about 37 floors up from the garage level where I entered. Took me over half an hour. This is a cakewalk compared to that.

And yes, catching a sunset from an observation deck really is lovely, getting a great view of the city disappearing in darkness, the light and shadows playing around the buildings, … . Something I really enjoyed back when I was living high up myself on the 49th floor for a year.

The first time I visited Tokyo, and stayed in Shinjuku, I did not understand why every evening there was this line waiting outside of the Metropolitan Government Building, didn't go up the tower myself until a year later on my second trip after learning what the queue was about.

I don't think there is any observation deck that can really show the scale of Tokyo, not even a helicopter tour would probably show the full scale.

And yes, I am scared of heights. Fully understand Phil not feeling too well while up at 450 meters 😉

  5. Another great video as always! Thanks for the look inside Fuji TV as have yet to go there and now deffo will. Roppongi Hills was our fave when you could go on the top / helipad. Nice and central.and open air so shame when they went inside only. Keep up the great work!!!
