2014年9月にフランスのパリを再訪した際に、シャンゼリゼ通りをコンコルド広場から凱旋門まで歩いてみた。
シャンゼリゼ通り（フランス語: L’Avenue des Champs-Élysées、またはLes Champs-Élysées）とは、フランス・パリの市内北西部にある大通りである。パリ市内で最も美しい通りとされていて、特にフランスでは「世界で最も美しい通り (la plus belle avenue du monde)」と言う表現が使われている。『オー・シャンゼリゼ』という流行歌のおかげで日本でも広く知られるようになった。
パリ市内北西部の第8区を横切る約3km、幅70mの大通りである。マロニエ（マロンの木）の並木道となっていて、東はオベリスクのあるコンコルド広場から、西は凱旋門のあるシャルル・ド・ゴール広場（旧エトワール広場）まで全長約3km続き、パリの観光スポットとなっている。この通りを延長すると、東のルーブル宮から、ルーブルのピラミッド、カルーゼル凱旋門、テュイルリー庭園、オベリスク、凱旋門、そして西のラ・デファンス地区の「グランダルシュ」へと東西の長い直線を形成している。この直線をパリの歴史軸などと呼ぶ。
シャンゼリゼ通りは東に行くにつれ微妙に下り坂になっており、下って行った先にはマリニー広場の緑地とマリニー劇場、グラン・パレ、プチ・パレ等の建物がある。西の方では、両側には有名ブランド店、映画館、キャバレー「リド」、カフェ、レストラン（そのうち最も有名なものは「フーケ (Fouquet’s)」）などが立ち並ぶ。なお、シャンゼリゼ劇場はシャンゼリゼ通りにではなく、モンテーニュ通りにある。
なお、”Les Champs-Élysées”とは、ギリシャ神話において有徳の人が死後に住む極楽浄土を意味するエリュシオン(英: the Elysium, the Elysian Fields)のことである。そのため、シャンゼリゼ通りは、日本風に言うと「極楽浄土通り」または「極楽通り」ということになる。また、シャンゼリゼ通りに面して、フランス大統領官邸であるエリゼ宮殿(le palais de l’Élysée)があるが、これも日本風に言うと「極楽浄土宮殿」ということになる。

About 3km across the 8th arrondissement of Paris city northwest, is a boulevard width of 70m. If you are become a tree-lined street (tree of malonic) horse chestnut, east from the Place de la Concorde with the Obelisk, the west is about 3km more length, and tourist attractions of Paris Charles de Gaulle with the Arc de Triomphe (formerly Place de l’Etoile) are. If you extend this street, from the Louvre Palace in the east, so as to form a long line of east and west pyramid of Louvre Carrousel Arc de Triomphe, Tuileries garden, Obelisk, and the Arc de Triomphe, La Defense district of west and to the “Grande Arche”. I called and history axis of Paris this line.
