SYDNEY – Japan qualified for their 10th straight Women’s World Cup in football on Sunday after reaching the semifinals of the Asian Cup.
Nadeshiko Japan hammered the Philippines 7-0 in Sydney in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup, which doubles as the qualifying round for the World Cup to be hosted in Brazil in the summer of 2027.
Japan beat Vietnam 4-0, India 11-0 and Taiwan 2-0 in Group C of the Asian Cup in Australia before their latest win over the Philippines.
They will face South Korea in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Nadeshiko Japan, currently eighth in the FIFA rankings, won the World Cup in 2011.
